Want to be an extra in ‘Paper Towns’ movie?
The film adaptation of John Green’s “Paper Towns” will be filming in the Charlotte area this November through December, according to the casting company.
Green’s novel is set primarily in Orlando, Fla., but North Carolina’s tax incentives for filmmakers make it a more affordable choice, the Indianapolis novelist told the Indy Star in September.
The movie’s release date is June 19, and North Carolina’s film incentives expire Dec. 31.
“Paper Towns” is about two estranged childhood friends, Quentin (played by Nat Wolff) and Margo (Cara Delevingne), who reunite for a night of debauchery. She then disappears, and Quentin sets out to track her down.
Green also wrote “The Fault in Our Stars,” which was turned into a hit movie earlier this year.
The “Paper Towns” production has some connections to Western North Carolina. The production has hired the same casting company that handled the “Untitled Armored Car” project — that filmed in Asheville this summer — and the “Hunger Games,” which filmed in Charlotte and Western North Carolina in 2011.
Tona B. Dahlquist Casting is now accepting submissions for people interested in working as background extras. All ages, types and ethnicities are needed for filming. The company is also seeking “a large number of those ages 16-23 who can pass for and/or portray high school teens,” the Facebook post says.
Green, who is also an executive producer of the film, has a direct connection to Asheville, as well.
His parents live in Asheville.
“My parents are psyched,” Green told the Indy Star of the upcoming shoot.
Temple Hill Entertainment, the production company responsible for the “Paper Towns” and “Fault” adaptations, worked in North Carolina this summer when making an upcoming film version of Nicholas Sparks novel, “The Longest Ride.” “The Longest Ride” filmed in Wilmington and Winston-Salem. The book, however was inspired by a Western North Carolina landmark.
“The story for ‘The Longest Ride’ really began when I learned about Black Mountain College,” Sparks wrote on his blog. “I had been struggling to find something that excited me for my next novel when I came across a reference to the college online. I was, to understate it, greatly captivated: that an isolated college in my home state of North Carolina was so influential to the American art scene seemed so unlikely that I began researching the school immediately.”
